To the eye, the wine is a deep ruby with noticeable sparkles. On the nose, small red fruits dominate, particularly raspberries and sour cherries. On the palate, the concentration of this 1er Cru is evident from the first sip. It is full bodies, but possesses the silky tannins for which the appellation is known. A long persistence comes from the subtle minerality which supports the wine and gives it a remarkable complexity. Its profile and finesse allow this wine to go well with tasty fowl such as coq au vin, partridge or woodcock. A wonderfully spicy, cool and elegant nose expresses very fresh aromas of plum, dark cherry, violet and a whiff of lilac. There is more volume and richness to the bigger-bodied flavors that are just a bit less mineral-driven while offering notably better complexity on the youthfully austere and chiseled finish that is also sneaky long. This is an excellent Charmes that should age effortlessly. Barrel Sample: 91-94 Good density of purple fruit. The nose has plenty of energy, the palate has taken on a toasty touch. This doesn't kick on as much from the Cras as one would hope. Tails away a little but at the finish. But rather more complete from another barrel, with a greater density of cherry/raspberry fruit which continues further.
